The Classical Fencing Society is a confraternity of Traditional Fencing Schools (Scuole di Armi) dedicated to a common Classical pedagogical approach. All CFS schools adhere to the same pedagogical philosophy, while maintaining a spirit unique to each school. The core of this approach includes a disciplined progressive initial period of instruction followed by cooperative training facilitated by mentor relationships for all full student members.

In addition to their training as fencers, or perhaps due to it, student members are expected to be dedicated to the development and pursuit of Virtue and Habitual Excellence. They shall strive for this not only in the arena of their art but also in their daily lives within their respective communities.

10th Anniversary Celebrations continue

June of 2008 we made our final celebration of the CFS 10th Anniversary at the Oakeshott Institute in Minneapolis, MI.  Maestro Sean Hayes reviewed our technical skills in foil and spada.  Maestro Hayes also lectured on the develpment of Italian fencing theory which can be seen to have maintained continuity over the last three centuries.  Finally, fencers enjoyed the hands on experience of seeing and handling examples from the Oakeshott Insitute's collection of historical weapons.  Big thanks go out to Maestro Hayes, Craig Johnson and Alexis La Joie.
